A government employee is accused of embezzling $49,000 in public funds to finance several international vacations over a period of 14 months

A government employee is accused of misusing $49,000 in public funds for several personal trips over a span of 14 months. The Australian Federal Police launched an investigation into the Sydney woman in June 2024 after receiving a report about her activities.
Authorities claim that the woman misused public funds to cover nearly $50,000 in expenses for flights and accommodations related to four international trips. Additionally, she is accused of using a fraudulent visa letter to justify her work-related travel and creating a false document to help a foreign national secure a visa for entry into Australia.

In December of last year, AFP officers carried out a search warrant at the woman's residence. She has been charged with fraudulently obtaining money from a Commonwealth entity, misusing her public office, and submitting a false document related to a visa application for a non-citizen seeking entry into Australia. The woman appeared in the Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday to face these charges and was granted conditional bail. She is scheduled to return to the same court on July 2.
