German tourist Carolina Wilga was located alive in Australia’s remote Outback on Friday, 12 days after she disappeared and just a day after her abandoned van was found, according to police.
The last confirmed sighting of the 26-year-old backpacker, and the last time her family and friends heard from her, was on June 29. She was seen at a general store in the wheat farming town of Beacon, which is 320 kilometers (200 miles) northeast of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. Beacon had a population of 123 in the 2021 census.
A member of the public discovered Wilga walking on a forest trail late Friday, said Western Australia Police Force Insp. Martin Glynn.
She was in a "fragile" condition but did not sustain any serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Perth for treatment, Glynn informed reporters.
