It has been confirmed that the initial round of negotiations to modernize and broaden the free trade agreement between Turkey and the United Kingdom will take place by the end of July. Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat announced this on the X social network following a meeting with British Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds in London. Bolat described the meeting as productive, noting that certain sections of the free trade agreement related to the chemical industry were signed. He regarded this development as a significant advancement toward modernizing the agreement.
Ömer Bolat announced that the 8th meeting of the Turkey-Great Britain Joint Economic and Trade Committee will take place in London this year. The meeting aims to assess bilateral trade relations from various perspectives. It's important to highlight that the free trade agreement between Turkey and the United Kingdom remained in effect following the UK's departure from the European Union in 2020. A joint review conducted in 2023 identified areas for improvement in the agreement.
