The sellers, Andrew and Jumari Roberts from Maize Valley Boerbok, Kalahari Red, and Savanna Stud near Hoopstad, Free State, are also notable winners from the South African Boer Goat Breeders’ Society’s World Show earlier this year. Additionally, their Savanna ewe, Maize Valley Savanna 95220248, sold for R240,000 at the same auction, setting a new record for ewes in the South African Savanna breed.
The highest-priced ram and ewe were purchased by Lennon Nkosi, a newcomer to the goat market from Mbombela, Mpumalanga. He expressed his commitment to establishing a goat farm with top genetic lines, which motivated him to ensure he wasn't outbid on these animals. The sale was conducted by Danie Strauss of Central Saleyard and André Kock & Sons from Limpopo.
