Dominican Republic and Spain finalize €110 million agreement

The governments of the Dominican Republic and Spain have finalized an agreement during the 10th Meeting of the Spanish-Dominican Joint Cooperation Commission, which establishes the Sustainable Development Partnership Framework for 2025–2029. This framework details collaborative initiatives in key areas, including the rule of law, human rights, education, employment, gender equality, sustainable land use, and climate resilience.

The agreement, signed by Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez and Spain’s Secretary of State for International Cooperation, Eva Granados Galiano, outlines a planned Spanish contribution of €110 million. Of this amount, €70 million will be allocated as reimbursable financing via FONPRODE/FEDES for sanitation and waste management initiatives, while €40 million will be offered as non-reimbursable aid through various cooperation mechanisms.
Both countries reiterated their dedication to effective and transparent collaboration. Spain highlighted its long-standing partnership with the Dominican Republic, which is currently executing €95 million in development projects across multiple sectors. This new partnership aligns with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, further reinforcing the historic ties between the nations.
