Samoa issued a strong warning to the Vodafone Fijiana XV by decisively defeating Tonga 64-14 on Tuesday, setting the stage for a high-stakes and physical final in the Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship tomorrow at Lawaqa Park.
With both teams entering the match unbeaten, the 4 PM showdown is expected to be a fierce battle between the tournament's two most dominant sides vying for regional supremacy.
Fijiana head coach Ioan Cunningham recognises the need for improvement, especially in kicking accuracy, after his team missed several conversions during their 59-5 victory over Tonga last Friday.
“We will focus on improving our goal-kicking accuracy for our upcoming game against Samoa,” Cunningham stated.

Despite the rainy conditions on Friday, Fijiana demonstrated their offensive strength by scoring 11 tries and providing valuable playing time to debutants and emerging talents. Coach Cunningham emphasised that this strategy is essential for developing team depth. “It was fantastic to see the new and younger players take the field and make an impact, as we aim to strengthen our team’s depth,” he said.
Samoa's impressive performance against Tonga, characterised by strong forward play and quick movements on the flanks, poses a significant challenge for the Fijians. The final on Saturday is anticipated to be a fierce battle between two proud Pacific rivals, both eager to claim the regional title.
