On Saturday, as the world marked the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, the Saint Lucian LGBTQ+ advocacy group 758Pride reiterated their plea for equality, understanding, and solidarity within society. In a statement, 758Pride founder Jessica St. Rose underscored the persistent challenges faced by LGBTQI+ individuals in Saint Lucia and the broader Caribbean, while also celebrating the resilience and strength that characterize the community.
"While we celebrate the advancements we've achieved, we must recognize that discrimination, stigma, and violence continue to be significant challenges for LGBTQI+ individuals in our region," stated St. Rose. "We must persist in our efforts to build a society where everyone can live free from fear and enjoy equal rights and opportunities."

Established in 2018 by a group of local activists, 758Pride has emerged as a strong advocate for LGBTQI+ rights in the country. In 2019, the organization organized Saint Lucia’s inaugural official LGBTQ Pride celebration, marking a historic milestone for visibility and inclusion.
This year, under the global theme "No One Left Behind: Equality, Freedom, and Justice for All," 758Pride emphasized the importance of community, solidarity, and a shared purpose in fostering significant change. St. Rose noted that the theme underscores “the essential role of connection and solidarity in creating an inclusive and equitable world.”
In a public statement, 758Pride urged governments, civil society organizations, and individuals to take concrete actions against homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia. The group's proposed action points include :
Abolishing discriminatory laws and implementing protective legislation.
Launching public awareness campaigns to combat prejudice.
Offering support for LGBTQI+ initiatives and grassroots organizations.
St. Rose highlighted ongoing challenges in Saint Lucia, such as the absence of legal recognition for LGBTQI+ individuals and the social stigma they frequently encounter. “Numerous legal and societal barriers still hinder LGBTQI+ people from living freely and safely,” she stated.
Despite these difficulties, 758Pride remains committed to its mission. “We take pride in the resilience of our community,” St. Rose remarked. “This day reminds us that our voices matter, our lives matter, and our struggle for equality must persist.”
