Prime Minister Philip Davis announced that The Bahamas has "turned the corner," stating that the nation is no longer in crisis and is now on a trajectory of recovery, growth, and increased public optimism.
Addressing members of the Progressive Liberal Party’s Men’s Branch, Davis emphasized several key indicators of progress, such as record tourism numbers, decreasing unemployment rates, and a rise in new investments. He particularly highlighted the recently signed $827 million redevelopment agreement for Grand Lucayan as a significant milestone that demonstrates real momentum for Grand Bahama.
“When we took office, we inherited an economy in critical condition, a healthcare system under strain, and a population weighed down by fear, exhaustion, and frustration,” Davis stated. “However, through consistent leadership, targeted governance, and a shared belief in our potential for improvement, we not only maintained our position but advanced it.” The Prime Minister emphasized that the nation’s recovery is not a coincidence; it is the outcome of the ongoing efforts of the Progressive Liberal Party government and the trust that Bahamians have placed in them.
“In just under four years, we have begun to repair what was damaged and revive what was neglected,” he stated. Davis recognized that Grand Bahama has long been promised change that never came to fruition. However, with the Grand Lucayan agreement, he noted that the island is experiencing more than just a transaction—it is at a pivotal moment. “Over $827 million in investments. Thousands of jobs. Genuine momentum. Real hope,” he remarked. He also highlighted ongoing infrastructure initiatives, such as the construction of a new hospital, airport enhancements, upgrades to the water system, and investments in the community, all serving as proof that “the page is turning” and “the corner is being turned.”
The Prime Minister highlighted a change in the national sentiment, noting that Bahamians are beginning to believe and dream once more.
“We're not here to congratulate ourselves—we're here to push even harder. Our goal is not to manage decline but to create something better and challenge the status quo.”
Dismissing critics and skeptics, Davis affirmed that the government will remain dedicated to its mission.
“We will stay focused on our work. We are turning a corner—and this is just the beginning.”
He ended with a call to action for the party’s supporters, encouraging them to avoid complacency and prepare for the challenges ahead.
“Now is not the time to relax. It’s time to get ready for battle.”
