Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the Israeli military will launch a full-scale operation in the Gaza Strip in the coming days to continue the offensive against Hamas, the Palestinian resistance movement. "In the very near future, we will enter with full force to complete the operation. Completing this operation means defeating Hamas and destroying it," Netanyahu stated in a release from his office on Tuesday. He emphasized, "There will be no scenario in which we halt the war. While a temporary ceasefire may occur, we are committed to seeing this through."
The Israeli Prime Minister also mentioned that Israel has established a system to facilitate the departure of Gaza residents. He added that his government is seeking countries willing to accept Palestinians from the besieged area. Netanyahu claimed that "over 50 percent will leave" if given the opportunity, according to his statement. Since the onset of the war in October 2023, Israel has expressed its intention to reduce the local Palestinian population in Gaza.
Netanyahu has announced that Israel will adopt US President Donald Trump’s plan to resettle a significant portion of Gaza’s population in other countries. This proposal has been met with widespread rejection from Palestinians and Arab nations, with human rights experts arguing that it would breach international law. Many Palestinians in Gaza express a strong desire to remain in their homes, fearing a repeat of the mass expulsion that took place during the conflict surrounding Israel's controversial establishment in 1948.
On October 7, 2023, Israel initiated its military actions in Gaza following Hamas's historic Al-Aqsa Flood operation, which was a response to the escalating violence against the Palestinian people. After struggling to meet its stated goals in Gaza, the Tel Aviv government agreed to Hamas's long-standing terms for a ceasefire, which took effect on January 19.
Two months later, Israel unilaterally violated the truce and resumed its intense bombing of Gaza. The situation worsened as the regime simultaneously tightened the blockade on Gaza, severely restricting essential supplies of food and medicine for the territory's 2.3 million residents.
