The government has stated that two upcoming summits in Beijing aim to instruct Taiwanese media and cultural representatives. Taiwan has expressed concerns that China's events, scheduled for May, are designed to disseminate propaganda. According to CNA, China will host the Cross-Strait Chinese Culture Summit on Wednesday and the Cross-Strait Media Summit on Thursday. The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) noted on Tuesday that while these gatherings are labeled as cultural exchanges, they carry political significance. Taiwan's government indicated that China has invited Taiwanese media and cultural representatives to Beijing, asserting that the intention is to lecture them, which contradicts the genuine spirit of cultural and educational exchanges.
The MAC emphasized that these events are not merely innocent cross-strait exchanges that should be free from political influence. Instead, they argue that the CCP utilizes these interactions as part of its united front strategy.
According to the MAC, these exchanges will not contribute to conflict resolution and are unlikely to gain recognition from the Taiwanese public. They expressed support for healthy and orderly exchanges between the two sides.
Additionally, the MAC urged Taiwanese individuals to adhere to regulations when engaging in cross-strait events, advising them not to sign any agreements or documents with China without government authorization.
