On Wednesday, May 21st, from 4:30 PM until 4:30 PM the following day, the Falkland Islands celebrated St. Helena Day by displaying the flags of both UK Overseas Territories in Stanley’s Victory Green.
St. Helena Day is observed annually on May 21st, honoring both the feast day of the saint and the traditional date of the island's discovery in 1502 by Portuguese navigator João da Nova. This day is a public holiday in St. Helena, Ascension, and Tristan da Cunha, celebrated with a range of festivities.
On Wednesday, the Falkland Islands Flag and the Union Jack were both proudly displayed on Victory Green to commemorate the 43rd Anniversary of Landing Day, which took place on May 21, 1982. This day marks the arrival of British Task Force contingents in San Carlos, initiating the final effort to reclaim Stanley and leading to the surrender and removal of Argentine military forces from the islands.
This Wednesday, everyone is warmly invited to the annual Landing Day Service at San Carlos Cemetery, starting at 11:00 AM. If possible, please bring a small item to contribute to the refreshment table in Matthew’s Nissan hut.
Additionally, on Thursday, April 29th, the Goose Green Liberation invites you to the Liberation Service at 11:00 AM. Everyone is welcome to attend. The Goose Green social club will be open afterward for refreshments, and contributions of finger food would be greatly appreciated.
