Cape Verde is welcoming regular labour immigration through structured bilateral cooperation that addresses its specific sector needs, stated Eurico Monteiro, the Minister for Investment Promotion and Business Development, on Wednesday in Praia, as reported by News.az, citing Xinhua.
"We are exploring this possibility and are already in discussions on the topic. We are open to establishing agreements for regular and controlled labour immigration," Monteiro mentioned during a forum on the labour market.
He further noted, "Not only are we considering this option, but we have also received interest from institutions looking to engage in this area."
The minister explained that the aim of this openness is to facilitate the "organised" integration of immigrants, particularly those from countries with strong connections to Cape Verde, such as Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, and São Tomé and PrÃncipe.
Monteiro states that numerous employers indicate Cape Verde is experiencing a "shortage of labour in several critical sectors," particularly in construction and agriculture.
