On Friday and Saturday, Iranian missile strikes aimed at Israel resulted in the death of one woman and injuries to dozens more. Iran's Revolutionary Guards described the attacks as retaliation for "Operation Rising Lion." The Israeli Defense Minister has warned that there will be a "heavy price" for these actions.
The missile barrages, which occurred on Friday evening and early Saturday morning, were launched from Iran in response to Israel's operations targeting Iranian military officials and nuclear facilities. The woman who lost her life was killed during the first wave of attacks, which began around 9:00 p.m. local time. Air raid sirens were activated across Israel, from the Galilee in the north to Be’er Sheva in the south, prompting millions to seek shelter.
IDF Spokesperson Effie Defrin reported that fewer than 100 missiles were launched from Iran towards Israel in the initial barrage, with most of them successfully intercepted. An Israeli official noted that the United States provided assistance with these interceptions.
Explosions were heard in central Israel during this first wave, with one missile striking a building directly. Footage from the area revealed significant damage to the structure.
Fire and Rescue Services indicated that their teams responded to two major incidents in the Gush Dan region. In one case, firefighters worked at a site of structural damage involving multiple buildings. In another incident in Gush Dan, they addressed severe damage to a high-rise building, where extensive destruction was reported.
Magen David Adom (MDA) reported that 41 individuals were injured across various locations, including two in critical condition, two in moderate condition, four with light-to-moderate injuries, and 33 suffering from light injuries or anxiety. The injured were transported to Beilinson, Ichilov, and Sheba Hospitals. Tragically, one woman later succumbed to her injuries.
In northern Israel, a fragment from a projectile hit a residential building, and debris from missile fire ignited a brush fire.
Early Saturday morning, shortly after 1:00 a.m., another missile barrage from Iran targeted Israel, prompting the IDF to detect the launches. Sirens were activated from northern to southern Israel, and residents reported hearing explosions. Initial reports suggest that a missile landed in Gush Dan in central Israel.
Fire and Rescue services reported that seven individuals sustained minor injuries, while one person was moderately injured and subsequently evacuated to Ichilov Hospital following a barrage in central Israel.
Magen David Adom (MDA) indicated that one of its Mobile Intensive Care Units was struck by shrapnel in the Tel Aviv area. Two female crew members, who were wearing protective gear, suffered minor injuries from glass shards. They received treatment on-site and did not need to be taken to the hospital.
The IDF announced that numerous missiles were launched from Iran towards Israel, with some being intercepted.
“Search and Rescue teams are currently active in several locations across the country where reports of fallen projectiles have been received. We urge the public to continue following the instructions of the Home Front Command,” the IDF stated.
The IDF urged civilians to refrain from sharing locations and footage of strikes, stating, “The enemy monitors this footage to enhance its operational capabilities. Please act responsibly—do not post locations online!”
Defence Minister Israel Katz remarked, "Iran has crossed a line by launching missiles at civilian areas in Israel." He further emphasized, "We will persist in protecting the citizens of Israel and ensure that the Ayatollah regime faces severe consequences for its despicable actions."
