Nauru's Minister for Climate Change and National Resilience, Asterio Appi, held a fruitful discussion with Leticia Carvalho, the Secretary General of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), during the 3rd UN Ocean Conference (UNOC3) in Nice, France, this week.
The conversation focused on the vital role of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) within the ISA framework, the necessity of following the roadmap for the adoption of exploitation regulations by the ISA, and the recent updates to Nauru’s sponsorship agreement with Nauru Ocean Resources Inc. (NORI).
Minister Appi was accompanied by Nauru’s Permanent Representative to the ISA, Ambassador David Aingimea; Acting CEO of the Nauru Seabed Minerals Authority, Sai Parvathi Sasikumar; and the Legal Adviser to Nauru’s UN Mission, Francilia Adire.
