Mexican security forces, in a Navy-led operation on Saturday in Huitzontla, Michoacán, killed 12 suspected cartel members and arrested 9, according to officials. Security Minister Omar Harfuch reported that three Navy personnel were injured during the raid, which aimed at apprehending individuals associated with a criminal group involved in homicide, extortion, and kidnapping.
Authorities have stated that the group is linked to maritime drug trafficking. According to Reuters, weapons and tactical gear were confiscated at the location. Local media have identified the suspects as members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, which has recently been designated a terrorist organization by the U.S.
