NASA cautions that powerful solar flares could lead to potential blackouts

NASA has issued a warning that heightened solar activity in the upcoming weeks may interfere with radio communications, power grids, and GPS systems on Earth. This alert comes after the strongest solar flare of the year, classified as an X2.7 eruption, was recorded by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory. This flare recently led to radio blackouts in certain areas of the Middle East.

According to MSN, the flare came from a newly formed, highly active region of the Sun that is now turning to face Earth. Scientists indicate that this area may keep generating solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs), potentially leading to additional disruptions and the occurrence of auroras.
The Sun is currently experiencing its solar maximum, the highest point in its 11-year cycle, which increases the likelihood of extreme space weather. Although the UK Met Office has reported no significant eruptions directed towards Earth so far, they continue to monitor the situation as sunspot activity remains high.
