Russia conducts its largest aerial assault on Ukraine since the war began

Russia conducted its largest aerial assault on Ukraine overnight, according to a Ukrainian official on Sunday. This attack is part of an intensifying bombing campaign that has diminished hopes for a resolution to the three-year conflict. Ukraine's air force reported that Russia launched a total of 537 aerial weapons, which included 477 drones and decoys, as well as 60 missiles. Of these, 249 were intercepted, while 226 were likely lost due to electronic jamming. Yuriy Ihnat, the head of communications for Ukraine’s air force, described the overnight strike as “the most massive air strike” on the country, encompassing both drones and various missile types. The assault affected regions throughout Ukraine, including areas in the west, far from the front lines. In response, Poland and allied nations deployed aircraft to secure Polish airspace, as stated by the Polish air force on Sunday. Kherson regional Governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported one fatality from a drone strike, while six individuals, including a child, were injured in Cherkasy, according to regional Governor Ihor Taburets.

The conflict shows no signs of easing, as US-led international peace initiatives have yet to yield any significant progress. Recent talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul were brief and did not advance toward a settlement.
