The loan repayment deadline had passed, leading Fazar Ali to visit the survivor's family. At that moment, neither her brothers nor her parents were home. When she refused to open the door, Fazar forcibly broke it down, stripped her, and assaulted her, as recounted by the survivor and her brother.
Disturbing details of the incident, linked to a rape case in Bangladesh, have emerged. On Thursday around 11 PM, the Hindu woman was alone at her father's house in Cumilla with her two children when she heard a knock from the main suspect, Fazar Ali. After she declined to answer, he broke in, assaulted her, and raped her—all over a debt of Rs 35,000 owed to her family.
A senior police official who led the investigation described the woman as a victim of "barbaric violence," according to Bangladeshi daily Prothom Alo. Her desperate cries for help drew the attention of nearby residents, who rushed to the scene. A neighbor reported that when some locals discovered the woman and Fazar in a compromising situation, they initially attacked her and filmed the incident. However, upon realizing she had been raped, they turned their anger towards Fazar, who managed to escape.
He was later apprehended in Dhaka after fleeing from a hospital in Cumilla, where he had been treated for injuries inflicted by the locals. According to reports, Fazar was known for running drug and gambling operations in the area and falsely claimed affiliation with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) led by Khaleda Zia, despite holding no official position. Additionally, four others who recorded the assault and shared it on social media were also arrested.
